Reading Notes: Week 2 Anthology

One of the most interesting stories throughout the anthology was Pygmalion's story about how he met the love of his life.

The Man in the Moon is an origin story from Laos. It shows how the moon was created. It is a story about a blacksmith who was unhappy with his job and wanted to be a stone, a stonecutter, the sun, and lastly the moon. Being a blacksmith was too hot. A stone was painful. A stonecutter was tiring. The sun was hot, and the moon was even hot. A wise man let him change every time except the last time when he wanted to be a blacksmith again. I feel like this story shows that you should be happy where you are.

There was a man who did not want to marry any girl. He created a statue and fell in love with it. He wanted to marry it, so he asked Venus to help him marry a bride like the statue he made. Venus gave him a bride like the statue. This story is very interesting and strange.

A lion wanted to marry a girl, so he went to the girl's parents for her hand in marriage. The parents asked him to take out his claws and teeth in order to marry her. The lion loved the girl so much that he did so. The parents just laughed at him. :( This story makes me really sad for the lion. I would probably not like a lion to marry my child either, but he really showed his love for the daughter by taking out his claws and teeth which I am sure is very painful. What did the lion do after?
