Week 2 Story: Lion Lover

Image
I fell in love with a beautiful girl. We have been dating for 5 years. I have hirsutism, and she was the only one who looked beyond my appearance. I finally decided to tie the knot with my beloved. I was really excited to propose and wanted to secretly break the news to my potential in laws before I proposed.  I knocked on the beautiful brown door.  (Wooden Front Door ;  Web Source:  NeedPix  ) This was the first time we had met, and they were not excited to have me as their son-in-law. Instead of welcoming me with open arms, they called me a lion. They said I had to shave my head and shave my legs in order to marry their daughter. I was astonished, but I went along with their strange demands. They seemed completely harmless. I came again the next day with a shaved head and shaved legs.  They made more demands. They said I needed to give them money and not just a dollar or two but just $5,000 (no biggie.)  I went to the bank and gave them everything in my wallet. I already bought their

Reading Notes: Week 2 Anthology

Image
One of the most interesting stories throughout the anthology was Pygmalion's story about how he met the love of his life.  (The Origin of Sculpture by Jean-Baptiste  Renault;  Web Source:  Wikimedia ) The Man in the Moon is an origin story from Laos. It shows how the moon was created. It is a story about a blacksmith who was unhappy with his job and wanted to be a stone, a stonecutter, the sun, and lastly the moon. Being a blacksmith was too hot. A stone was painful. A stonecutter was tiring. The sun was hot, and the moon was even hot. A wise man let him change every time except the last time when he wanted to be a blacksmith again. I feel like this story shows that you should be happy where you are.  There was a man who did not want to marry any girl. He created a statue and fell in love with it. He wanted to marry it, so he asked Venus to help him marry a bride like the statue he made. Venus gave him a bride like the statue. This story is very interesting and strange.  A lion want

Time Strategies

Image
I love planning my time. I have yet to do that this semester. Below is my favorite kind of planner with the hours listed on the side.  (Daily and Weekly Calendar; Web Source: Wikimedia ) I read the  11 Ways Unsuccessful People Mismanage their Time . I completely agree that I need a schedule. I applied to medical schools this summer, and the common application and applications for each school were very time-consuming. At the beginning, I just told myself I would casually do the application. I ended up not getting anything done. It was not until I got a planner and scheduled exactly what I was going to do and when I was going to do it that I finally finished. I still have to schedule this semester with all of my courses and my job. I found it interesting that there were rituals that could help people stay on track. I love to be involved in different organizations. I realize that those were my rituals and planned fun activities. I had dance practice for three hours on Wednesday and Sunday

Technology

Image
I am not a tech-savvy person, so I am interested in learning how to use the different computer tools.  (Computer Desktop; Web Source:  Pixabay ) I am familiar with word counters and cropping images. However, I am not familiar with any of the other technology tools like Blogger.com, Google sites, and Twine, but I am excited to learn how to use them. I was looking at some of the storybooks and was wondering why I liked the design so much. I really like the design of Twine and am excited to try to use it. There's not any particular web skill that I really want to work on this semester. I am just excited to try new things on the web. I am not very  tech-savvy, so I cannot recommend anything. I am open to any suggestions.

Assignments

Image
When I was in elementary school, talking while doing work was considered unsatisfactory and frowned upon. (Good, Satisfactory, and Bad Checklist; Web Source:  Pxfuel ) The assignment I am most intrigued by is storytelling. I am not the most creative writer, so I am interested in stepping out of my comfort zone and trying it out. I have never taken a course where I make a blog. I like the idea of not submitting my papers on Canvas. At first, it stressed me out since I have never used blogger.com, but now, it feels like a diary and is pretty comforting. This course is like others because I am still doing readings and getting feedback on assignments.  I am interested in the extra commenting extra credit. I love to talk to others. I remember being in elementary school and getting a U (unsatisfactory) because I talked too much to others during class.  I have never been rewarded for talking, so I am excited for this. I think the check-in and connect sounds really cool too. I like the idea of

Growth Mindset

Image
The fixed mind-set tends to care about appearing intelligent while the growth mind-set focuses on wanting to learn. Thus, the two mindsets react to situations uniquely.  (Comparing Growth Mind-Set Versus Fixed Mind-Set; Web Source:  Flickr ) I have not heard of Carol Dweck or formally known of the growth mindset before. However, I feel that mindset is one that I try to adopt. I can relate that many of my favorite classes are those that I find are easy and not as challenging. However, I understand that I am not really gaining anything from that. I see myself on the spectrum of growth-fixed mindset in orchestra especially more when I was younger. When I first started playing the violin in the 6th grade, other students had already started to learn how to play. Learning how to play the violin and read music was challenging at the time, and I became discouraged and did not want to play. Over the years, I started practicing once in the morning with some friends at school that also wanted to

Introduction to a Cooking, Dancing, Pakistani Violinist

Image
Hi, I am Sana.   I am a psychology major, and I hope to attend medical school.  My parents emigrated from Pakistan before I was born.                                                                               (Pakistan Transportation, Web Source:  Wikimedia ) I love to play the violin, dance, sing, and cook.  I currently am on a Bollywood dance team and am in the Civic Orchestra at OU. I've been playing the violin for 10 years now, and I still don't know how to play it.  I love to cook food from all across the world.  My favorite cuisines to cook are Thai and Pakistani food.  I am currently working on a new project where I make the national dish from every country once a week. It will take me a couple years to do it. I also love to make all kinds of desserts. I love making brownies, cakes, and pies from scratch. My favorite food is ice cream.  I have two male tabby cats. They look exactly the same, so most people think that I only have one cat. They have completely different

Storybook Favorites

Image
This dessert called Modak is traditionally known as a favorite food for Lord Ganesh.  (Prepared Modak, Web Source:  Wikipedia ) Nursery Rhymes The topic is nursery rhymes which I am familiar with. The title did a good job letting me know what the basic topic was. It was very short, but it was intriguing and enticed me to learn more about this topic. I learned what the Storybook was, but did not know how it related to Mythology and Folklore until I read the introduction. The introduction does a great job explaining the topic and prompting me to want to read the story. The author plays a character from a nursery rhyme called "Mother Goose" in the introduction which is interesting. As kids who read these nursery rhymes, most of us probably did not think beyond the nursery rhyme, so this topic is very interesting. It even introduces the three stories it wants to discuss like a thesis. The design is nice. The background depicts pictures of characters from the certain nursery rhyme

Hawaii...my Favorite Place

Image
Oahu, Hawaii. My family loves to travel. I, on the other hand, would rather be at home. With perfect weather and a beautiful scenery, how could someone not like Hawaii?     (My Siblings and I in Oahu, Hawaii, Personal Image) Although I did not know how to swim, I ended up surfing at the Pyramid Rock, read a good book, and took a nap on the beach.  (The Pyramid Rock Found in Oahu, Hawaii, Web Source:  Wikimedia: Pyramid Rock ) I am very afraid of airplanes, so I would not have minded being left in Hawaii.  (Satellite View of Hawaii, Web Source:  Wikipedia: Satellite Image )
